Artist Statement

It's difficult to articulate the thoughts behind the work, sometimes I have no idea why I photograph the things I do, there is an instinct that drives me to create photographs and I follow that where ever it leads me.

What I can tell you is that of the photographs I have created, my most cherished have been of children.

I have studied and experimented with all photographic mediums and techniques and found that the primitive nature of Large format photography (4x5) to be the most appealing and satisfying.

Devoid of new technology, ignored by computerized takeover, it remains as it was over 100 years ago. That is a very comforting and beautiful thing to me.

Writing an artist statement is something I find very difficult, writing a good one seems impossible.

The task at hand always brings to mind a famous Lewis Hine quote

“If I could say it in words, I would not need to photograph.”
